Future enhancements to the FileMaker product line are at the top of every FileMaker enthusiast's mind. Everyone has their favorite idea for a new feature. The easiest way to make a suggestion to FileMaker, Inc. is to visit the FileMaker Web site.
When I worked at Claris, feature requests started with technical support, since a good 75 percent of them were already possible using a combination of FileMaker Pro features. We forwarded the remaining requests to the marketing department for review. That doesn't mean they were implemented, but they certainly were considered.
There are plenty of third-party lists out there being compiled as well. FMPug.com has a list with more than 6,300 new feature request votes and counting. FMForums.com has a Wants & Wishes area in their forums. Undoubtedly, there are dozens of other sites with feature request lists.
So ... why would we need another avenue for submitting feature requests? For starters, I've never seen a list in FileMaker Advisor Magazine and I think it would benefit a lot of readers to see the ideas floating around the FileMaker community. Secondly, I'll personally deliver the compiled list to the correct FileMaker, Inc. representatives.
I know I'm opening myself up to the possibility of a lot of e-mails so I need anyone sending in a feature request to follow these rules:
- Send only one e-mail with only one feature request.
- Please describe your feature request with a short title and well-written one paragraph description.
- No attachments.
- The title of your e-mail must be exactly "Feature Request" (no quotes).
My e-mail address is:

I look forward to all your ideas and will compile a list of the most popular requests in the next issue. Please send your feature request as soon as you can after reading this column so it can be included in the report delivered to FileMaker, Inc. executives.
