IBM Accelerates Portal Learning and Business Process Automation
IBM Business Process Accelerator and IBM Learning Accelerator gives WebSphere Portal users fast-track to efficiency and learning.
IBM has added two business-ready packages (called accelerators) to its WebSphere Portal portfolio: IBM Business Process Accelerator and IBM Learning Accelerator.
According to IBM, the Business Process Accelerator helps simplify and improve the adoption of business processes by using WebSphere Portal's role-based, personalized user interface to improve implementation and user response time for document-, human-, and system-centric processes. Users can complete workflow tasks more efficiently when they have role-based, personalized access through a portal to all related information, applications, and data. This accelerator helps integrate siloed applications and processes through a set of out-of-the-box workflows definitions, portlets, and forms to automate paper-driven processes, such as employee on-boarding and timecard management, by providing eForm and workflow templates organizations can customize and integrate with back-end systems. IBM Business Process Accelerator also lets electronic forms and workflows run in business mashups that provide an aggregated view of information and tasks based upon the user's role and stage of the workflow
With IBM Learning Accelerator, customers can provide personalized online training in the context of employees’ activities. Highlights include:
- Optimized for WebSphere Portal 6, including unified administration, personalization, and performance. Having the user interface integrated in Portal can lower administrative overhead and provide key tasks in one location.
- Improvements to administrative tasks, such as managing results, enrollment, and course uploads. Administrators can get a quick view and links, which help them identify critical tasks and their status. Quick links provide access to typical tasks to manage courses, curriculums, and certificates. Distributed content deployment options can improve response time by placing content geographically closer to students.
- Critical learning data can be updated in bulk.
- Support for license and learning data migration from previous Lotus eLearning solutions.
IBM Learning Accelerator is integrated with Lotus Quickr and Lotus Sametime Web Conferencing software, for long-distance training, shared multiple content types, and collaboration on documents from a central repository without taxing e-mail. Integration with Lotus Sametime Web Conferencing lets admins schedule and drive enrollment of training Web conferences from the learning accelerator. With Lotus Quickr, students and instructors have a place to collaborate.
The two accelerators join the five accelerators IBM released in 2007:
- IBM Self-Service Accelerator for human resources tasks
- IBM Dashboard Accelerator
- IBM Collaboration Accelerator for team collaboration
- IBM Content Accelerator for building and managing Web sites
- IBM Enterprise Suite Accelerator to support multiple portal projects, including Web content management and electronic forms
Customers can purchase individual accelerators and snap them onto their existing Portal 6.0.1, or they can purchase the entire solution with WebSphere Portal. Learning Accelerator is US$36 per user. Business Process Accelerator is $915 per value unit or $244 per user.
