New IBM WebSphere Integration Software
New versions of WebSphere MQ and WebSphere Business Integration Server Express software offer improved integration for SMBs up to large enterprises.
IBM is releasing new versions of its WebSphere MQ and WebSphere Business Integration (WBI) Server Express software. According to IBM, improvements in WebSphere MQ will help reduce support costs for manual coding and file transfer and point-to-point solutions to exchange data between business applications and systems. The latest version of WBI Server Express includes adapters that integrate with existing applications, better flexibility using wizard-driven business rules, and simplified remote deployment via the Web.
The new versions of WebSphere MQ and WBI Server Express offer a handful of tools designed to improve customers' understanding of the product offerings and increase the speed at which small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) can start becoming productive with them. Those tools include:
- Sales and technical training, including marketing resources and technical support via the IBM Virtual Innovation Center.
- PartnerWorld Industry Networks (PWIN) support, a resource IBM Business Partners can tap to build vertical market capabilities.
- Quick Tour for WebSphere MQ is a new tutorial that can help you understand how the software works and assists in rapid deployment efforts.
- File Transfer Sample Application for WebSphere MQ is a new user productivity aid that demonstrates how you can move files between applications.
- WebSphere Business Integration Server Express now has wizard-driven business rules, acceleration of business processes, simplified Web-based remote deployment, configuration and administration, and tools to create adapters for applications.
SMB is one of the largest and fastest growing segments in the IT industry. Analyst group IDC projects that SMBs will spend US$360 billion on IT in 2005.
"SMBs and large businesses share some of the common technology requirements including the need to integrate data and processes within their company and with outside suppliers and customers -- integration is one of the key attributes for on demand businesses," said Robert LeBlanc, IBM Application and Integration Middleware general manager. "The software we are unveiling today gives customers all the hallmark features of WebSphere business integration software, and at the same time we’ve made our software easier to install, run, and manage."
Features for large enterprises
The new features in WebSphere MQ are designed to let enterprises connect point-to-point applications, establish enterprise-wide connectivity, or extend application connections into and across mainframe environments and streamline complex application integration. WebSphere MQ 6 is the first version of the product to include the foundation for creating an enterprise service bus (ESB) from a single Eclipse workbench. It provides point-to-point reliable information delivery and the ability to publish information to multiple queues at one time from a common tool.
With WebSphere MQ 6, organizations can combine heterogeneous IT assets -- both new and existing -- into composite applications. If an organization integrates new Web services, it will be able to extend its IT infrastructure and accommodate future integration of new services, while also integrating existing assets.
WebSphere MQ 6 is tightly integrated with the application infrastructure capabilities in the latest release of IBM CICS Transaction Server and WebSphere Application Server 6 and its release on the z/OS. These integration features can let organizations configure and manage WebSphere MQ servers, manage larger numbers of message queues and larger queue sizes, as well as configure and administer other integration and infrastructure software in their organization, from a single console.
More than 12,000 customers and partners worldwide use IBM WebSphere MQ software, as does 66 percent of the largest North American and EMEA banks.
"Wachovia has a long history with WebSphere MQ and we've seen how the development and planning of the product enhancements through the years have remained true to an evolving future. WebSphere MQ is not only a highly reliable product, it is also a product which has evolved with our needs," said Tom Fox, Wachovia assistant vice President and technology advisor. "As new features like SOAP are added, we know that we can continue to depend on WebSphere MQ as a core aspect of the bank's Service Oriented Architecture."
WebSphere MQ Workflow
IBM also announced enhancements to WebSphere MQ Workflow, including greater ease of installation and configuration based on a native Java Client API and added support for Web services. It also lets you manage more complex processes and improve the efficiency of the business processes linking people and data.
