Microsoft is offering several fixes to Access 2002 with its Office XP Service Pack 2 (http://Advisor.com/Article/SMITT818).
The update fixes problems detailed in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles (available at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;kbhowto&sd=GN&ln=EN-US&FR=0):
- Q311219 BUG: Office XP Version of Mscal.ocx Breaks Binary Compatibility For Early Bound Clients
- Q322860 ACC2002: Database Password Prompt Appears After You Open a Database Using a Hyperlink or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) Code
- Q320713 ACC2002: A Report That Should Open to Print Preview View or to Print Switches to Design View Unexpectedly
- Q311888 ACC2000: Horizontal Scroll Bar Is Not Displayed on a Subform
SP2 fixes other problems in Access, Microsoft says, including the following:
- When you set a custom application icon, an icon appears on the Windows taskbar for the Database window even if you don't display the Database window.
- You can't update records in a linked table that's linked to a view after you run the Linked Table Manager to refresh the links.
- If you have a database with a password and you try to open it to repair it, you receive the message "Not a valid password" even if you enter the correct password.
- When you delete a record from a form, you don't receive a message that prompts you to verify that you want to delete the record. This problem only occurs when you've selected the Record Changes check box and set the Modal and Pop-up form properties to Yes, Microsoft says.
- When you run an action query that's been converted from a select query and you respond with No to the prompt to commit the changes, the changes are still committed.
