IBM Helps BPs with Linux Offerings

IBM's eServer Integrated Platform bundles hardware and software to give members of its Business Partner program a foundation for developing their own Linux offerings for small and midsize customers.

IBM is offering the eServer Integrated Platform -- which combines e-business software and hardware -- to members of its Business Partner (BP) program to help them design Linux-based solutions for small and midsize businesses. IBM says vendors will use the platform to help customers get up and running on Linux e-business systems quickly.

The platform includes hardware and software designed to help Business Partners build and deploy Linux-based solutions quickly. The platform should help Business Partners offer Java-based solutions -- such as applications for finance, retail, telecommunications, distribution, and manufacturing -- on an open platform that's integrated and pre-configured, IBM says.

The Integrated Platform for e-business supports Suse Linux Enterprise Server and includes the following:

  • eServer xSeries: IBM x300, x330, and x360 servers will be included.
  • WebSphere Application Server: The e-business software gives customers a standards-based platform for creating, running, and integrating e-business applications across computing platforms.
  • DB2 database software: The DB2 Web-ready relational database management system is a good fit for large corporations as well as midsize and small e-businesses, IBM says.

IBM says the platform will give BPs a blueprint of software and hardware configurations; instructions for proposing, implementing, and extending solutions; tested implementation scenarios; vendor tools; and financing options.

"With this new offering, IBM Business Partners are able to deliver a complete top-to-bottom platform that connects Linux, Java, Intel, and Web services -- giving partners the premier platform for e-business applications for Linux," says Richard Michos, vice president of Linux servers for IBM.
