PermaLink Seeing the old gang at the ball game06/25/2009 11:04 AM
I had a great time last night with Rob Novak, Liz, Ellie, spouses and kids at a Mariner's game. Rob invited me and Shoshanna. We talked alot about the Lotus Advisor conferences. Got me thinking that we should have a Lotus Advisor reunion. Maybe at Lotusphere. Maybe I could get IBM to sponsor something? What do you think?

I've been helping a partner write a Domino web service that reads and writes Calendar entries.   Our test calendar is here: http://www.msdomino.net/GroupCal.nsf

The WSDL is here:  http://www.msdomino.net/GroupCal.nsf/calendarsync?wsdl

Feel free to try it.

PermaLink Looking for typical Notes developers to talk with Microsoft06/03/2009 08:22 AM
As part of the "how can Microsoft help Notes developer get started with Microsoft tools" effort, they want to talk to some "typical" Notes developers. So if you wouldn't mind giving Microsoft your opinions, let me know and I'll add you to the list.

PermaLink Sometimes they listen to me…. So what do you need?05/22/2009 12:38 PM
I’m constantly saying Microsoft needs to reach out and help Notes developers learn Microsoft products and technologies. Folks here are now listening and want to know what they can do. So, what do you need? Here are a few ideas: Free MSDN subscriptions On-line training tailored for Notes developers Free Visual Studio VPCs configured with a development environment Sponsor a section of Open NTF with code samples and demos of Notes integration/migration A Ray Ozzie Mission patch (just for fun) A Lotus Notes Users Group care package A weekly live meeting to talk about issues Free training vouchers A Lotus Notes/Microsoft referral database for customers (find work for developers) An on the Microsoft Campus event Free customer support calls (pack of 10) I'm hoping you folks with come up with more.

PermaLink Screen shots of using XSLT and Access 2007 to migrate Notes data to SharePoint05/14/2009 11:36 AM
I've been showing this demo recently and figured it's time to post the screen shot so you could try it your self (using my database and your SharePoint site).

Check it out : Here

PermaLink Still here05/05/2009 12:37 PM
I'm still here at the other evil empire. You may have heard of laid offs at Microsoft which is a sign of the times. I'm glad to keep doing what I'm doing. But, sad about my friends that are looking for new jobs. This includes my IBM friends looking for a place to land, In my case there was 5 months as a free agent before moving to the west coast.

PermaLink ReadViewEntries - challenges 04/07/2009 12:52 PM
When I told Bob Balaban that I wanted to create an XSLT for transforming ReadViewEntry XML to a useful format, he didn't think it was a good idea.  Depending on the built-in feature of Domino to deliver an XML version of the data found in a View seemed like a good idea to me.  This way, I could get the data with just a URL call and I didn't need to do anything on the server.

After creating the XSLT file and many demos, a problem pops up.  Seems Domino by default limits the number of entries returned to 1000.  You can change this but you need to touch the Domino server...which is what I did to my server.  A work around is to look at the total number of entries, which in my case is 1745. (
http://www.msdomino.net/orders.nsf/customer%20orders?readviewentries?count=-1) (in this case the server default is change so you get all the documents.  so just imaging you only get back 1000 documents)

Then chunk the data by changing the Start Point of the call (
http://www.msdomino.net/orders.nsf/customer%20orders?readviewentries?count=-1&start=1001)

And then append the data together before transforming it.

Not a great solution...but a solution

PermaLink Visual Studion 2008 Windows Form demo of loading a DataGrid control with data using Lotus Domino ReadViewEntries URLs.04/06/2009 10:06 AM
Finding more ways to use my ReadViewEntries XSLT transform to nice XML.  This demo populates a DataGrid control by calling the entered ReadViewEntries URL and transforming it before writing it to the control.

A cool part is I figured out how to add the XSLT file as a Resource in the "Solution" so I don't need to find it in the file system.

unzip it in you Visual Studio 2008, Projects folder and run it.  (or just finding the EXE may work.)

Here is a Link
