NOTES DEVELOPMENT

Wrap Native IBM Lotus Notes Classes in Custom Classes

Learn a method to make your code flexible and reusable, extending the functionality of traditional LotusScript.

By John P. M. Dillon

About this Article:

By using an object-oriented approach to your Notes programming, the code you write is more easily reusable because it's encapsulated inside the properties and methods of your custom classes. Not only that, because you only have to write the code once, then expose it as a property or method, you can take the time to handle all the different scenarios you may face, thus making it more robust and maintainable.

John DillonJohn P. M. Dillon has been developing Notes applications, predominately workflow apps, for a research firm in Ventura County, California since 1996. He recently began teaching Rapid Application Development with Lotus Notes at California Lutheran University. Outside of work, his passion is the sport of performance rally, a Notes-like motorsport, where racing happens in remote areas, with close collaboration between driver and navigator, at very high speeds. John's team has won several races and championships and is currently seeking partners and sponsors for the upcoming season. On occasion he can be heard torturing the keys of his piano while composing music.
