About this Article:

Customers often do a good job of describing the things they work with, but a poor job of describing the relationships between those things. As a result, during the development process, your initial Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) may have all the entities correct, but the relationship lines are probably overly simplistic. When you frame the problem in this light, two solutions become clear: 1) do a better job of getting the relationships right before beginning development, or 2) make it easier to change relationships on-the-fly. Number 1 isn't possible, but fortunately, number 2 is. Find out more.
