About this Article:
A couple of years ago at a conference, someone asked me if there was a way to have a Visual FoxPro application do some background processing when the user wasn't doing anything. He was thinking of something like a screen saver, except that it would do useful work. I thought for a moment and suggested he might be able to do something with a timer, but I didn't really have an answer. I found the problem interesting and, on the way home, started playing with the idea. I realized that VFP 8's event binding capabilities make the task much simpler.
