APPLICATION INTEGRATION

Integrate Windows Scripting and FileMaker Pro

Beyond batch files: Get the most from Windows automation.

By Wim Decorte

About this Article:

At some point in your FileMaker development, you probably had to exchange data with other applications, or perhaps even control those other applications. Maybe you had to retrieve information from the operating system or manipulate its settings (e.g., send data to Excel to create a chart, or get the IP address from the guest machine). Have you ever wanted to change the default FileMaker printer? Or create a new Outlook contact based on FileMaker Pro data? In this article, I'll show you how to do this and more, using free (and, in most cases, pre-installed) tools. I won't discuss C, C++, or Visual Basic. But I'll use command lines, Visual Basic for Applications, and VBscript.
