Borland Software has announced it will license Microsoft's .NET Framework Software Development Kit (SDK) for distribution in its own products. The announcement makes Borland the first company to license the SDK.
Borland plans to offer a product with the embedded SDK later in 2003. The product will include application development lifecycle capabilities that help developers manage the various phases of an application -- e.g., planning, design, deployment, and maintenance.
The company says it will also give existing Borland customers more opportunities to build and launch applications on the .NET Framework.
Borland recently acquired modeling and design tool provider TogetherSoft. The upcoming .NET product will reportedly build on TogetherSoft's .NET offerings.
Borland also sells products for Java developers.
