Microsoft is now offering release candidate 1 (RC1) for its Windows .NET Server operating system. Microsoft says the release indicates that engineering, development, and beta testing are complete, and the product is almost ready for general availability. Windows .NET Server RC1 code is available for customers and third-party testers to download.
You can get the server operating system download at http://www.microsoft.com/windows.netserver/preview. Customers can also subscribe to receive full-function preview code of Windows .NET Server.
Microsoft promises improved security, performance, and reliability with this version. It includes a set of Web application services designed to help developers launch connected applications quickly.
Windows .NET Server is built on the Windows 2000 Server code base. Microsoft says .NET technology is deeply integrated into the Windows .NET Server family, including native support for the .NET Framework for developing and deploying connected applications and Web services.
