Central Command and Kaspersky Labs have released AVP (AntiVirus Protection) for Linux, the first suite of virus prevention, detection, and elimination tools for the Linux operating system. The introduction of AVP for Linux is part of a growing trend of companies porting their products to the Linux OS.
AVP for Linux offers a full set of antivirus utilities, including a real-time virus monitor and scanner, an on-demand scanner, and the ability to immobilize found viruses. The program can detect more than 26,000 viruses, virus families, Trojans, and other dangerous applications. Central Command also publishes virus updates weekly on its Web site to provide continuity of protection.
AVP for Linux is built on the AntiViral Toolkit Pro engine, which can scan within e-mail databases, encoded messages, and compressed archives/programs. It can also perform individual file, sector, and memory scans.
