Mobile Enterprise Software Supports Web Services

AvantGo M-Business Server 5.0 Application Edition brings enterprise applications, XML Web services, and the Internet to mobile and wireless devices.

AvantGo M-Business Server 5.0 Application Edition is designed to bring enterprise applications, XML Web services, and the Internet to mobile and wireless devices. By supporting XML Web services, .NET, and advanced Web application development standards -- including Dynamic HTML (DHTML), XML, CSS, DOM, and JavaScript -- this new offering lets you bring feature-rich, Web-based business applications to mobile devices. Designed to take advantage of capabilities of smart handheld devices and "always-on" connectivity, M-Business Server 5.0 Application Edition provides a scalable, secure solution for developing and deploying enterprise applications on most mobile devices.

The AvantGo solution addresses key challenges in developing and deploying dynamic, interactive, and mission-critical mobile applications by reducing customers' time-to-market and total cost of ownership. AvantGo M-Business Server 5.0 Application Edition enhances developer productivity by letting you use existing Web application third-party development tools and environments with leading mobile devices -- regardless of the differences between device operating systems, wireless communication, and security protocols.

M-Business Server:

  • Enables access to XML Web services from mobile devices: Application Edition streamlines mobile device access to enterprise databases and other data sources available on the network, enabling access to XML data sources and providing persistent storage using an on-device database, such as Oracle and Sybase, to synchronize data to a device and easily access it using JavaScript.
  • Improves developer productivity: By enabling full use of existing development tools, such as Visual Studio .NET, and programming languages, such as C# and Java, Application Edition improves developer productivity for mobile applications.
  • Enhances user productivity: Through dynamic presentation, Application Edition lets developers effectively use color and graphics and user interface elements, including DHTML and on-device database APIs, for a better user experience.

Minimum server requirements:
  • Windows NT Server 4 Service Pack 6a; minimum Pentium II 233MHz; 128MB RAM; 100MB disk space
